When does auto enrolment start for employers?
Auto enrolment commenced for the largest employers on 1st October 2012. For smaller employers the start is phased in up to 1st April 2017 while for new employers established after 1st April 2012 the phasing is due to complete by 1st February 2018.
All employers big and small have wide ranging duties and these begin on a predetermined staging date. The staging date is different for each employer and is determined by the number of employees in the employers PAYE scheme as at 1st April 2012. Before the staging date, the employer will need to have systems and procedures in place to comply with their new duties. In particular, it should be noted that these are legal responsibilities and a “do nothing option” auto-enrolment-penalties is not available.
Cestrian Financial Planning Services Ltd can check your staging date for you. To do this we will need your employer PAYE reference number. Email Cestrian to do this free of charge for you.
